Our Mission
Radical Forge is a UK-based developer that has provided co-development services on a range of AAA and indie titles. In 2021 the company created their first original IP, 'Bright Paw', which was published on PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One/Series S/X, Google and iOS by Rogue Games. We are currently working on our newest IP, Southfield, which you can look forward to playing soon!!

Your Mission
Radical Forge is looking for a Mid level Programmer. The role requires you to work collaboratively alongside other disciplines to carry out project work. We are seeking an enthusiastic team player with a solid programming foundation and an understanding of developing games for console platforms.
As a Mid Level Programmer with a focus on porting and certification, you should be able to jump into a project, evaluate the requirements to bring that title to another platform and then perform the work with other disciplines if required, potentially touching all systems, including but not limited to multiplayer, graphics, authentication, input and save data.
You should have a good grasp of working in a game engine with an understanding of its various systems. You should also have a good grasp of going through certification on at least 1 console platform. Whilst the majority of the work is focused on platform development, you might also be expected to assist in other areas of development depending on your skill set (systems / gameplay etc).
This mid level programmer reports to the Lead Programmer.
Skills & Experience
Investigating Bugs and Issues - Can take initiative to talk to other departments, clients and co-dev partners to investigate and resolve issues. Understands how their work impacts other disciplines and takes this into account.
Task Management - Is able to logically reason out given scope and estimates of tasks. Can communicate with code leads in ample time during a sprint when tasks are not going to be able to be completed. Is able to keep task tickets up to date without prompting.
Source Control - Has experience with at least one industry standard source control system such as Git/Perforce etc.
Game Engine Competency - Is proficient in at least one industry standard game engine and has experience in one other industry standard game engine. Understands their processes, including features outside of the coder role. Able to utilise this knowledge to communicate and work with other disciplines.
Performance & Optimisation - Can identify or investigate performance issues with the assistance of performance capture tools like PIX or Razer and is able to resolve the performance issue. Takes care to write performant code.
Code Review - Asks inquisitive questions about the functionality and can spot common issues (eg. unused variables, infinite loops, forgot to call the function...) with a code review. Is able to provide reasoning for their choices and calmly discusses feedback, always seeing it as a learning opportunity. Is able to take on feedback and make changes as well as ongoing improvements without supervision.
Platform Competency - Able to work across multiple systems to ensure platform compliance based on evolving certification requirements.
Requirements
Experience with one or more console SDKs (Xbox GDK, PS5 SDK, Switch 1/2 SDKs)
Commercial game engine experience (Unreal Engine / Unity)
Knowledge of a scripting language (C++ / C#)
Knowledge of an IDE (Rider, Visual Studio)
Knowledge of profiling tools (PIX GDK, Razor, engine profiler)
The role will initially be a 12-month Fixed Term contract with the potential to extend after this.
This role is fully remote within the UK.
